Bayern Munich have already tried to hire a host of different managers but were knocked back by the likes of Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick and Julian Nagelsmann.

Sky Germany have now reported that Benfica boss Roger Schmidt has turned down the German outfit.

It suggests that he was asked about replacing Tuchel after the club tried to convince him to stay.

But just as Tuchel rejected the club, Schmidt has opted to remain at the Portuguese giants.

The club's search for a new manager is proving to be difficult and potentially more difficult as Roberto De Zerbi was ruled out.

The outgoing Brighton and Hove Albion will leave the club at the end of the season.

But reports have suggested that the Italian will not be taking over at the Allianz Arena for next season.

De Zerbi will instead be "taking a break" before deciding on his future plans.
