Scottie Scheffler is having quite the year. In March, he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship; in April, he won the Masters for the second time and then the Heritage Classic; and in May, he became a dad for the first time.
Scheffler also made headlines when he was arrested on Friday, before the start of the second round of the PGA Championship, after he attempted to drive around a traffic stoppage to get to Valhalla Golf Club.
Throughout it all, his wife, Meredith Scheffler (née Scudder), has been his biggest support. Back in 2022, when he won the Masters for the first time, he said Meredith helps him keep everything in perspective. "My identity isn’t a golf score. Like Meredith told me this morning, 'If you win this golf tournament today, if you lose this golf tournament by 10 shots, if you never win another golf tournament again,' she goes, 'I’m still going to love you, you’re still going to be the same person, Jesus loves you and nothing changes.'"
But who is Meredith Scheffler? Here, everything you need to know about Scottie Scheffler's wife:
1. Meredith is from Texas.
She was born in 1996 to parents Mark and Michele Scudder. Meredith has two older siblings: a brother named Andrew and a sister named Stephanie.
2. She met Scottie in high school.
They both attended Highland Park High School, where they graduated in 2014. "At the beginning of high school I always thought he had a super humble ambiance about him, that he was just a really down-to-earth guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously," she told Golf Digest. "Even when he had amazing accomplishments, that wasn’t the most important thing about him."
They started dating their senior year, and dated long distance throughout college—Meredith attended Texas A&M University, and Scottie went to University of Texas.
3. They got engaged and married in 2020.
They tied the knot on December 4, 2020 at Arlington Hall in Texas:
They currently live in Dallas, Texas. "Dallas became home pretty quickly for us as kids, and I couldn’t really imagine living anywhere else," Scottie said in an interview. "All her family pretty much lives here. All my family pretty much lives here. So, Dallas is home for us."
4. She works part-time for Behind Every Door.
Meredith works as the director of curating opportunities at Behind Every Door (BED), a Christian community center organization.
Per her bio on the nonprofit's site, "After graduating she worked for Park Cities Presbyterian Church as a Middle School resident for 2 years. When that ended Meredith enjoyed volunteering and getting to know different organizations around Dallas. In 2020, her heart was drawn to Behind Every Door and her and her husband fell in love with their mission. She began working part time for Behind Every Door in December of 2021. She is so grateful to be apart of this incredible team and the opportunity to daily see how the Lord is using B.E.D. to build relationships and grow His Kingdom."
5. Meredith became a mom earlier this month.
She and Scottie welcomed their first child, a son named Bennett, on May 8, 2024.
"Welcome to the world little one. Your mom & dad love you so much," Scottie wrote on Instagram. (Meredith's Instagram account is private.)
Ahead of the birth of Bennett, Scottie said, "To be sitting at home awaiting the birth of our child and then bringing our child home was definitely a very interesting feeling because I think sometimes we both see just the kid in each other, and being responsible for another life form is a pretty interesting thing for us to be responsible for."
He added, "I can’t really describe the feeling of dreaming of just coming and playing on the PGA Tour, to be sitting at home with the girl I dated in high school with our child and then the Green Jacket sitting in the closet is a pretty insane feeling, and I just wanted to be as thankful as possible."
