Sean 'P Diddy' Combs has been slammed for his recent apology after a video clip of his attack in 2016 on then girlfriend Cassie Ventura has been shared widely online.

The 54-year-old rapper took to his Instagram page on Sunday afternoon to issue an apology. In the clip, he said: "I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses."

However comments on the post have called out the rapper for his self tape, with many asking for him to make a clear and public apology to his ex Cassie Ventura, who he appears to violently assault in a clip from 2016.

One person commented on the video: "Not accepted you are just doing it because you got caught, I am so sorry for your children particularly your daughters that love you." Another shared: "You're full of c*** diddy." A third wrote: "Why are you apologising to us? Where’s your apology to Cassie?."

"You know this apology would have been acceptable if he did it after the incident or maybe you know when the allegations were thrown at him but to do it after the video has been shown you're not getting any pity like you're only doing that because you got caught," said a fifth.

In the full clip to camera, an exhausted looking Diddy tells fans: "So difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, sometimes you got to do that. I was f***ed up. I mean I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses, my behaviour in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video, disgusting.

"I was disgusted then when I did it, I am disgusted now. I went and I sought out professional help, I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. Asked God for his mercy and grace. I'm so sorry. But I am committed to be a better man each and every day. I'm not asking for forgiveness, I'm truly sorry."

The social media video comes after the CCTV clip from 2016 has been unearthed, in which P Diddy appears to assault Cassie at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles,. The footage, obtained by CNN, appears to match events described in Cassie's lawsuit against the musician.

In the footage from 2016, Cassie can be seen walking towards the lifts in in the hallway of the hotel. Diddy then appears to run after his then-girlfriend, grabs her by the neck, and throws her to the ground while holding a towel around his waist.

In the footage, Diddy is then seen kicking her twice and retrieving luggage that was by the elevator before dragging her by a sweatshirt towards a room. After Cassie stands up, the shocking footage shows through a mirror that Diddy appears to shove her. He's additionally seen sitting in a chair with only a towel around his body before throwing an object at Cassie.

Cassie came forward with allegations against the rapper in November 2023, but the pair settled the lawsuit out of court in a timely manner. According to court documents obtained by The Mirror, she alleged that "he raped her and perpetually abused her for years."
