Like many in the Leeds United squad, Wembley Stadium will be a new experience for Joel Piroe. Only a few of Daniel Farke's side have played under the world-famous arch ahead of Sunday's Championship play-off final with Southampton.

But while there are bound to be some nerves among the players as they prepare to walk out in front of 90,000 fans for the right to play in next season's Premier League, the Dutch forward has revealed there is a trust and belief among the squad that this is their time.

In any other season, Leeds would be already celebrating promotion after picking up 90 points over the course of the regular campaign. However, such was the fervent nature of the competition that Leicester and Ipswich were able to top that total - while Southampton's 87-point tally was only enough for fourth.

A late dip saw Piroe and Co miss out on an automatic promotion spot, but they showed in no uncertain terms that they were back to their best in the emphatic 4-0 play-off semi-final victory over Norwich City. Piroe headed Leeds' second on Thursday night, making it 14 for the season and is set for another key role at Wembley.

It will be a new experience for the 24-year-old - Swansea's play-off final defeat to Brentford came the season before he arrived in South Wales - but one he is relishing. And he insists the squad is ready to take their chance.

“I haven’t been," Piroe said. "I didn’t know before I went to Swansea that they had been to the play-off final the year before and unfortunately I haven’t been there yet. I’m very happy we are going there now. We know it’s the end; going to Wembley if you are in the play-offs, but we have to look at it all one game at a time.

"We believe we can go up. We trust each other and believe in each other and have to keep believing. With the team we have, we need to back ourselves and go out there and make it happen.

"Of course, we are very happy and celebrated a little bit in the dressing room. But we now know we have to look forward to Wembley.”
