New York Yankees star Ian Hamilton placed on rarely-used injury list with MLB star facing period out

Hamilton sat out the MLB contest as the Yankees saw their seven-game winning streak dramatically halted.

The 28-year-old is a reliable arm out of the bullpen and is currently tied for second on the team with 19 appearances.

He will be available to return to the active roster on Sunday, May 26.

"Covid list is still a thing?" gasped one fan on X.

"Covid List bruh… just say he got the YIPS," said another.

"Knew something was wrong with Hamilton," commented a third.

"Covid in big 2024???" added a fourth.

So far this season, Hamilton has a 3.18 ERA with six holds and 19 strikeouts in 22 innings.

In corresponding moves, the Yankees selected the contract of lefty Clayton Andrews from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

They also designated Colby White for assignment.

New York dropped to 33-16 on the season after a 5-4 loss to the Mariners on Monday.

They led 4-1 going into the top of the ninth but collapsed in dramatic fashion in the Bronx.

Starter Marcus Stroman looked to have secured an eighth-straight win for the Yankees with a masterful performance on the mound.

He pitched 7.1 innings, allowing just three hits and a solo home run to Dominic Canzone.

Clay Holmes was called from the pen to secure his 14th save of the year.

Five key MLB rule changes in 2024

1. The pitch clock is reduced from 20 to 18 seconds with runners on base. It will remain at 15 seconds with bases empty.

2. When a pitching change is made, the innings timer will reset to 2:00 rather than 2:15 like it did last year.

3. Teams will only be allowed four mound visits per game in 2024, down from five last season.

4. Fielders and defenders blocking bases will be called for obstruction by referees.

5. The runners' lane from home plate to first base has been widened to include the dirt between the grass and the white line.

But the usually reliable closer was smacked around, giving up more runs in a single inning than he'd previously allowed all season.

"That was on me,” said a disappointed Holmes after the game.

"I thought I made some good pitches and definitely some balls found some holes.

"But I had a couple guys there that [were] 0-2, 1-2, and I put them on base.

"As a pitcher, you got to make pitches after that and overcome that. I wasn’t able to do that tonight."

The three-game series continues tonight at Yankee Stadium, with the first pitch at 8:05 pm ET.
