Train services through Bolton are being cancelled due to a points failure at Salford Crescent.
Services on the lines between Clitheroe and Rochdale have all been affected.
The delay has been caused by fewer trains being able to run on all lines available.
Network Rail are aware of the fault and engineers have arrived on site and rail replacement buses are leaving Bolton.
Clitheroe, Whalley, Langho, Ramsgreave and Wilpshire, Blackburn, Darwen, Entwistle, Bromley Cross, Hall-i-th-Wood and Bolton are all affected by the cancellation on the Clitheroe to Rochdale line.
Disruption is expected until 8:30pm, with travel times expected to increase by up to 60 minutes whilst ravelling by road transport.
Northern Rail tickets may be used at no additional cost on board any alternative Northern, Transpennine Express or LNER service to complete your journey.
The company advises checking station information posters for the location of the bus pick up points and be advised that bicycles, e-bikes and dogs are not permitted on rail replacement buses.
