Leeds United's promotion rivals Burnley recorded a vital win in their quest for a top-two finish as they ran out 2-0 winners at Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.
After Leeds dropped two points against Queens Park Rangers in the 12:30pm kick-off, Burnley were in action at 3pm looking to pounce and close the gap at the top of the Championship table.
And Scott Parker's side did just that, easing to a comfortable win in South Wales to move into the automatic promotion places and now within just two points of leaders Leeds.
The Clarets made a fast start at the Swansea.com Stadium and took the lead in the fourth minute. A mistake from the home side allowed Burnley to venture forward and Zian Flemming pulled the ball across the face of goal for Josh Brownhill, in acres of space inside the area, to tap home from close-range.
It was just the start Burnley wanted and they continued to push forward in an attempt to double their advantage. And in the 22nd minute, the Clarets went 2-0 in front. Former Leeds loanee Jaidon Anthony was the man that found the net, as after chaos erupted inside the box, he was on hand to steer the ball into the roof of the net.
As the game wore on, Swansea started to create chances and should have pulled one back midway through the second half. Josh Tymon curled an enticing delivery into the area for Ronald at the back post, but the Brazilian dragged his header wide when he should have at least hit the target, let alone scored.
Apart from that, it felt as though Burnley weren't troubled much and they ended up cruising to a much-needed 2-0 win after dropping points against West Brom on Tuesday. It means they leapfrog Sheffield United, who are not in action until Sunday when they face rivals Sheffield Wednesday, into second.
Before Burnley's game against Swansea, Leeds were in action at QPR. Daniel Farke's side ended up coming back from 2-0 down to salvage a point in west London, ending their four-game losing streak at Loftus Road.
Despite making a bright start, Leeds went 1-0 down as Koki Saito pounced on an error from Brenden Aaronson to curl the ball beyond Illan Meslier. It turned from bad to worse for the Whites on the half hour mark, however, as QPR then doubled their lead, with Steve Cook heading home from Paul Smyth's cross.
But Leeds, as they have done numerous times this season, showed character and clawed themselves back into the game. They pulled one back in the 40th minute as Morgan Fox put the ball through his own net, before Jayden Bogle equalised for the Whites just after half-time.
Although Leeds pushed to find a winner in the second half, they had to settle for a point in the end. Speaking after the match, Farke said: "As a club we don't have the best game here.
"I would never sign a draw before the game but of course during this period when you play third game in a week - to go 2-0 down and come back, it's a good point.
"QPR deserved to be in the lead, we were poor in the first 35 minutes. We gave too easy situaitons away. Reacting too late, not switched on to defend. What was good was the reaction of my team today.
"Today we showed resilience. Second half we were totally on it. QPR are always a dangerous side at home, with their counter attacks. A good point on the road."
