Emmerdale stars Lucy Pargeter and Jonny McPherson appeared on This Morning on Wednesday (March 19) and teased potential trouble for their soap characters following a shocking collapse.

Lucy's character, Chas Dingle, looks to be caught up in a second spiking mystery in a matter of weeks after the character is rushed to hospital in the latest edition of the ITV soap.

With Chas still suffering with pain from the effects of the limousine crash, she was seen opening some painkillers as son Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and his new fiancé John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) arrived in the backroom of the Woolpack.

Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) was due back to work after his own recovery from the accident, and Chas urged him to make the best of the awkward situation given his ex, Ella Forster (Paula Lane), worked as a receptionist at the surgery.

The day before, love rivals Chas and Ella had a very public showdown in The Woolpack as Chas made it clear she wasn't welcome at their engagement celebration.

But only a short while later, John and Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) headed to the pub, where they found Chas unconscious and bleeding from a head wound, having collapsed and banged her head on the bar only moments earlier.

John rushed to help Chas, who had been taken to the hospital. Liam was horrified to hear that there were alarmingly high levels of codeine in Chas's system, but she claimed she had only been taking the pills as prescribed.

As Liam told a doctor that he had also been monitoring his wife-to-be Chas's intake and she couldn't possibly have overdosed, but it was confirmed that, somehow, she had.

Chas Dingle star Lucy talked about Ella potentially messing with Chas' medication and drawing a wedge between her character and Liam which "could tamper with their happiness"

This Morning host Cat Deeley asked the pair if Ella was the culprit in Chas' mystery drug overdose but Lucy was very vague. She said: "I don't know, who knows, it could be anybody really. But I think they both automatically assume that she has had a dabble with her medication."

The show's soap expert, Sharon Marshall, quickly chimed in: "So it's fair to say that Ella is a bit of a spanner in the works with this new relationship.

"Do you think there is a possibility she could drive you two apart? You have been through so much, the limo crash and everything."

"It makes them stronger, though," Lucy confirmed as Jonny added: "Yeah, all the trauma they have endured, the adversity has allowed them to."

Lucy chipped in: "Ella is always there, and she's always lingering, always looming, and I wouldn't put it past her if she tried to tamper with their happiness." Is Ella responsible for Chas's hospital dash? Fans will have to wait and see.
