Local residents have expressed concerns about potential noise and rubbish issues if an "intolerable" chicken shop is allowed to stay open until 2am.
Leeds City Council has received nine letters of objection to the suggested extension of 's premises licence in Burley Road. One resident said: "Opening until 2am would make life unbearable for local residents who live next to Westfield Terrace in particular."
They also mentioned that "Some of the residents are vulnerable and with terminal health conditions."
Further complaints include enduring strong cooking odours from the outlet, even after recent extractor flue upgrades.
The letter further stated: "If open until 2am the flue will be operating and pumping out smells and noise in very close proximity to the bedrooms of at least six properties."
NYK Leeds Ltd, the licence holder, initially requested permission last summer to serve food until 2am. Currently, they are permitted to operate until midnight from Sunday to Thursday, and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, without playing recorded music and with mandatory litter patrols every half-hour.
Another complainant mentioned that locals are already tasked with clearing away food waste near the shop daily. They said: "Please think about the residents. It's intolerable now. It is a residential area. Please refuse this extension."

In its application, NYK Leeds stated it had installed soundproofing at the rear vent of the establishment. The company wrote: "Any highways noise and litter issues will be alleviated. We are proposing to provide more than adequate provision for litter and recycling."
NYK Leeds has prepared an impact assessment addressing potential nuisances, with the report including findings from noise and odour readings at their location. The report said: "In conclusion, noise and odour do not pose a constraint to an extension of hours to 2am."
A licensing sub-committee is set to review the application in an upcoming hearing on Tuesday, March 25.
