Pupils in red raise £868 for Midlands Air Ambulance with cakes and courage

Ashley Manor Prep proves little people can make a big difference with dress up days and sweet fundraising flair

Ashley Manor Prep School painted the town red as staff and pupils dressed up and baked up a storm to raise money for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. Their efforts netted £868.55, helping fund three lifesaving missions.

The Charlton Kings school community came together in glorious sunshine to support the cause, with pupils donning red clothes for a special non-uniform day dubbed ‘Wear It Red’. The event aimed to raise awareness and money for the charity, which operates air ambulance helicopters and critical care cars across the region.

Nicola Bee from the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity attended a whole-school assembly to explain how the donations would be used to support the vital service. Younger pupils also had the chance to try on flight uniforms, helmets and handle the enormous medical kit bags used by air ambulance crews.

The day’s events were rounded off with a record-breaking bake sale, which proved popular with pupils and staff alike.

According to the charity, each air ambulance mission costs £2,950, while critical care car missions cost £288. The funds raised by Ashley Manor Prep will cover the cost of three critical care missions.
