Charges for on street parking in Bolton are set to increase following a newly approved council budget for 2025/26.

It comes as the council department responsible for on street parking looks to save more than a £1 million.

As well as parking costs, the cost of school meals, funeral services, pest control fees and planning services are all set to rise following a newly approved Directorate of Place council budget.

On street parking in Bolton is set to increase by as much as 25 per cent following the changes.

The report detailing the parking changes notes that: “On street parking charges have not been increased for several years, as machines require incremental changes of 10p with a cost to re-programme machines.

“A benchmarking review has been taken of all tariffs and approval is sought to increase to the revised charge rates.”

This means that the revised charge for on street parking for 30 minutes will rise from £1.30 to £1.50 via 15.38% increase.

A long stay (over 10 hours) on a Saturday, the most expensive charge, will rise from £2.60 to £3.00 via a 15.38 per cent increase.

A total of £4k will also go towards a review of parking activity and charging. It is proposed to enforce Traffic Regulation Orders on all car parks, including those in District Centres.

A report detailing the charges states that Bolton Council is 'still facing a very difficult financial period' but the proposed budget, which has been approved, is thought to be 'robust'.
