We've been saying it for a while: jelly nails are back. Over the last few months, we've seen stars like Demi Lovato, Hailey Bieber and Jennie put their glazed and pastel twists on the trend, but the options for interpretations are truly endless as long as they're translucent. The latest celebrity spin on the look is an especially delicious one, reminding us not just of jelly but of a favourite, familiar fruit-flavoured dessert.

Demi performed at the Caron Treatment Centres' New York Gala at Cipriani looking like a total knockout wearing a black leather trench-style mini dress that matched her long, dark hair. She paired it with a classic cat-eye and statement red lip combo, and at first glance, it may look like the powerhouse vocalist was wearing a two-tone red French manicure, but thanks to a closer look from nail artist Natalie Minerva, we can see much more clearly — literally.

“We applied OPI’s GELevate system in the round shape and resized the length to Demi’s preference,” Minerva reveals. “We then applied OPI’s Intelli-Gel Super Base, and two coats of this red jelly gel I got long ago in Japan. I then topped it off with Intelli-Gel Super Gloss top gel.”

The result is a “cherry jello” manicure — like fruity gelatin suspended in time. And because they extend past her fingertips, there's a “clear window” that creates an almost French manicure-esque illusion.

“Jello nails are fantastic because they are simple yet impactful, and the clear window is really only achievable with clear extensions,” Minerva says.

But even if you aren't in the market for clear extensions, like Demi Lovato, you can create a similar look with a sheer red nail polish. We love Barry M's Mexico Jelly Nail Paint in Hot Chilli.
