Morrisons urgently recall meat product as it may contain blue plastic
Food safety chiefs have issued a warning saying the 'product is unsafe to eat' and explained how to get a refund
Morrisons has issued an urgent recall of one of its popular products amid contamination fears. The store says some packs of its Cumberland Sausages could contain pieces of blue plastic.
The affected products are Morrisons The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages in a 400g pack. They have a use by date of May 1, 2025.
In a recall notice the Food Standards Agency said: "Morrisons is recalling Morrisons The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages because the product may contain small pieces of blue plastic." It added the risk was: "the possible presence of small pieces of blue plastic which makes the product unsafe to eat."
It advised: "If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest store for a refund."
Food recalls happen when there are issues with products. The FSA explained: "If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).
"The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers."
In an information notice to stores Morrisons said: "Morrisons is recalling the above product with Use By 01 May because there is a risk that some packs may contain small pieces of blue plastic. Please do not eat this product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund.
"We don't need a receipt. No other products are affected by this issue.
"We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.
