Double standards? – ‘Attitude concerns’ tag on Super Eagles’ Osimhen unfair

A report from The Telegraph has claimed that English clubs have ‘attitude concerns’ regarding Super Eagles and Napoli-owned attacker, Victor Osimhen.

This has left many football followers questioning the narrative from the English media, which could be a way to dent the 26-year-old’s transfer move to the Premier League.

If being honest and not biased, perhaps even racism, why else would one of the most proven and hard-working strikers in Europe be deemed a “risk” based on attitude?

The former LOSC Lille striker is the same player who has represented five European clubs — Wolfsburg, Charleroi, Napoli, and now Galatasaray — and never once have managers, teammates, or club officials publicly criticised his character.

Rather, the Super Eagles talisman is often praised for his relentless winning spirit.

When Luis Suárez was literally biting opponents on the pitch, he was still courted by top clubs. When Sandro Tonali was caught breaching betting regulations after arriving in England, clubs were still willing to work around him.

Jack Grealish’s frequent off-pitch incidents, including drunken outings, did not stop Manchester City from fielding him.

Portuguese footballer, Bernardo Silva, once faced serious accusations over insensitive social media posts but remains a beloved figure at Manchester City.

Yet somehow, Osimhen — a player who pulled Napoli to their first Serie A title in over three decades, a player admired for his fighting spirit — faces ‘attitude concerns.’

If you believe this is simply normal club caution, then that’s a deception. To make it to the top as an African footballer is often a much harder road.

There is no valid reason why top English clubs should not be moving aggressively to sign a forward like Osimhen. Should we talk about his goal record, and his mentality on the pitch— they tick every box that elite strikers are judged by.

However, it is their personal problem if they eventually take their media platforms to undermine the Nigerian forward. He has notched 30 goals in 35 match appearances for Galatasaray, and he is not stopping anytime soon.
