Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has been linked with a transfer to Atletico Madrid in the summer, but the move seems unlikely due to the Spanish giants’ inability to fund it, Soccernet.ng reports.
There have been growing speculations over Lookman’s future, as the 27-year-old forward is expected to leave Bergamo in the summer after an impressive three-year stay that has seen him contribute 50 goals and 24 assists in 115 games.

Lookman is expected to join a top club in one of the top five leagues, but his destination remains unknown. The former Everton star has been linked to clubs like PSG, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid has also been touted as a potential destination, as Lookman seems like the type of player Diego Simeone would want on his team.
Also, Atleti need to get attacking reinforcements to aid their challenge for the LaLiga against the other established Spanish big boys, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Why Atlético Madrid may not be able to get Ademola Lookman
Ademola Lookman is Atalanta’s most valuable asset, and they will not accept anything less than €60 million before they sell. According to Estadio Deportivo, this is a lot of money for Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid are coming off a summer when they spent over €170 million on transfers. So they have to watch their spending for the next year or two.
Moreover, La Liga have a strict financial policy, and if Los Rojiblancos overspend, they could face penalties. To get Lookman, Atletico Madrid would have to make a big sale, and that is quite unlikely.
Nonetheless, even if Atletico pulls out of the race, Lookman will still get a good move in the summer.
