A man was been seriously injured when he was knocked out at a Merseyside bar. At around 1.10am on Sunday April 6, a man in his 30s was found injured after reportedly being attacked in the Avenue Bar on Scarisbrick Avenue, Southport.

The victim was knocked unconscious and sustained a serious ankle injury. He required hospital treatment.

Police detectives are circulating images of a man who may have information to assist their investigation.

"The victim sustained serious injuries which, as we have seen before with assaults of this nature, could have been catastrophic. He is recovering but the injuries are having a continued impact on his day to day life.

"We are committed to doing all we can to reduce violence on our streets, working alongside businesses in the community and our partners."
