Woman, 61, denies murdering her partner
Gillian Shaw has pleaded not guilty to murdering Steven Cox after he died aged 63 following an alleged assault
A woman has denied murdering her partner during an alleged assault on New Year's Eve. Police were called to a domestic incident on Rothwell Street in Everton shortly after 4pm on December 31 last year
Steven Cox was found with "a number of serious injuries" at the scene. The 63-year-old subsequently died in hospital in the early hours of New Year's Day.
Gillian Shaw, who the ECHO understands is Mr Cox's long term partner, has since been charged with his murder. The 61-year-old, of Rothwell Street, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court this morning, Tuesday, in order to face this count.
Appearing via video link to HMP Styal wearing a red long sleeved top and glasses, she spoke to confirm her name before pleading not guilty to the charge. Shaw is now due to face a seven-day trial beginning on June 23 and was further remanded into custody until this date.
Adjourning the case, Judge Denis Watson KC told her: "Gillian Shaw, your case remains in the list for trial on the 23rd of June. You are remanded in custody until your trial date."
A Merseyside Police spokesman said following the incident: "A woman has been charged with murder following an incident at a house in Everton on Tuesday, December 31. Officers were called to an address on Rothwell Street just after 4pm following a report of a domestic-related assault.
"Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 101 or DM @MerpolCC quoting incident reference 25000000983. Alternatively, you can pass information via the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
