Man stabbed in stomach during attempted Wolverhampton city centre robbery

A man was allegedly stabbed during an attempted robbery in Wolverhampton city centre.

The victim received hospital treatment for a small wound to his stomach following an incident in Wheelers Fold.

Police arrested a suspect shortly after 10.10pm on Sunday, May 11.

Brandon Cottam has been charged with attempted robbery, possessing a weapon, actual bodily harm, assault and possessing class A and B drugs.

The 22-year-old was held in police custody ahead of hearing at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, May 13.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We've charged a man after an attempted robbery with a knife in Wheelers Fold in Wolverhampton city centre at the weekend.

"The victim, who received a small stab wound to his stomach, has thankfully been treated at hospital and discharged.

"A suspect was arrested shortly after the incident at around 10.10pm on Sunday.

"Brandon Cottam, aged 22, has been charged with attempted robbery, possessing a weapon, actual bodily harm, assault and possessing class A and B drugs.

"He has been held in police custody ahead of a hearing at Wolverhampton Magistrates this morning."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a stabbing in Wheelers Fold, Wolverhampton at 10.22pm on Sunday, May 11.

"Two ambulances and two paramedic officers responded.

"Crews assessed and treated two men who had been injured.

"They received treatment on scene before being conveyed to hospital in a stable condition for further care."
