Aston Villa issue statement as new contract agreed
Aston Villa youngster Aidan Borland has penned fresh terms with the club
Aston Villa have announced that promising youngster Aidan Borland has signed a new contract with the club.
The 18-year-old joined Villa from Celtic in August 2023 and signed his first professional deal in April of last year.
He established himself in the Under-21 side as a 16-year-old and made his first-team debut against Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Cup in September.
Last week, he captained Villa to the FA Youth Cup title after Jimmy Shan’s side beat Man City Under-18s 2-1 in front of over 25,000 fans at Villa Park.
Just three days later, the Under-18s won the U18 Premier League South title after defeating Southampton at Bodymoor Heath.
Borland, a Scotland Under-19 international, has featured in every Premier League 2 game this season.
He also captained the Under-19s to reach the UEFA Youth League round of 16 earlier in the season, scoring from the penalty spot at Villa Park in a 3-1 defeat to eventual winners Barcelona.
Academy manager Mark Harrison said: "We are delighted to see Aidan sign a new long-term contract. This is well deserved and a recognition of his development since he joined us.
"Aidan is an intelligent central midfield player who is technically proficient and tactically astute. He has been a regular in our under-21s and under-19 UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup teams, captaining on many occasions, which is a reflection of his leadership skills and maturity on and off the pitch. He has also represented Scotland at under-19 international level this season."

Aston Villa is marking its 150th anniversary with the launch of a new merch collection including shirts, hoodies, books, mugs and scarves.
Top items include the Anniversary Shirt, Anniversary Hoodie and Anniversary Polo Shirt, plus the 150 Years picture books Volume One and Volume Two.
