Ram-raiders ditch Porsche Cayenne in Asda after shop heist
Raiders in balaclavas fled the scene in an Audi Q5
A luxury Porsche Cayenne was used to smash into an Asda Express petrol station shop and then abandoned at the scene of the crime in Weston-super-Mare in the early hours of this morning, Friday, May 23.
The Porsche was used in a ram-raid at the Asda Express store on the A371 by a group of masked men trying to force their way into the shop.
Avon and Somerset Police were called to the scene at around 3.44am.
When officers arrived, they found the gang had fled the scene after causing huge damage to the entrance.
It is believed that they escaped in a blue Audi Q5.
With a specialist dog unit, officers searched the area but no one was found. The Porsche and a grey Ford S-Max were both found damaged a the scene.
Avon and Somerset Police say members of the group were all wearing black clothing and balaclavas.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing and a cordon is in place around the petrol station while scene examinations continue.
A police spokesperson said: “At 3.44am today (23 May) we received a report of a group of men trying to force entry to a building off the A371 in Locking.
“Officers arrived five minutes later and found the group had left the area after damaging the building. Officers carried out a search of the area, supported by a specialist dog team, but no one was located.
“A black Porsche Cayenne and a grey Ford S-Max were found damaged at the scene.
“The group of men are believed to have left the area in a blue Audi Q5. They were wearing black clothing and balaclavas.
“An investigation is underway, and CCTV has been reviewed as part of this work. A cordon is in place to allow crime scene investigators to examine the area.
