Florian Wirtz has already made feelings clear on Bayer Leverkusen exit amid Liverpool links

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool

Florian Wirtz has previously admitted he would be willing to leave Bayer Leverkusen and try something new as speculation over a summer transfer to Liverpool intensifies.

The 22-year-old is a player that the Reds like and would be willing to make a move for if the Germany international were open to moving to the Premier League.

Since breaking through to the Bayer Leverkusen first team five years ago, Wirtz has established himself as one of the brightest talents in the Bundesliga and was part of the side that sealed a first league title success under Xabi Alonso last term.

On Friday, The Athletic reported that Bayern Munich "believe" the attacking midfielder would prefer a move to Anfield if he is to leave Leverkusen at the end of the season.

The prospect of the German international leaving Leverkusen, though, is nothing new, with Wirtz admitting earlier this month that he would like to "leave his comfort zone at some point and experience something new".

In an interview with Sports Illustrated in May, Wirtz said: "I'm quite lucky to have so many excellent clubs right on my doorstep and to now be able to play for one of the best clubs in Germany and Europe.

"I have great respect for the guys here in Leverkusen, who come from South America or Africa, for example, and leave their families and surroundings behind for their careers.

"I'm definitely keen to leave my comfort zone at some point and experience something new. I know the football changing rooms well enough and am convinced that I would quickly find a place anywhere."

A move to Anfield is likely to see Wirtz reunited with Jeremie Frimpong, who is finalising a move from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool after passing his medical earlier this week.
