New Natalie Portman film shot in Liverpool dealt blow as Rotten Tomatoes rating unveiled
Fountain of Youth, starring Natalie Portman and John Krasinski, arrived on AppleTV today
Natalie Portman and John Krasinski's new film shot in Liverpool has been dealt a blow as it currently has a rotten rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
Fountain Of Youth, directed by Guy Ritchie, was released on Apple TV today. The film has been billed as a modern day Indiana Jones and production of the film came to Merseyside last year. The full synopsis is: "A treasure-hunting mastermind assembles a team for a big adventure. But to outwit and outrun threats at every turn, he'll need someone even smarter, his estranged sister."
ECHO photographer Iain Watts captured incredible snaps as shooting commenced in Liverpool. Hollywood stars Natalie and John were spotted outside the Walker Art Gallery as they drove a modified convertible car.

Natalie said: "Are you in trouble? @johnkrasinski I can’t wait for you to join us on this mythological adventure. Fountain of Youth premieres May 23 on Apple TV."
John said the film fulfilled a long held dream to work with alongside the Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels director. He said: "From the day I got started in this biz, I always held out hope that I would one day get to be in a Guy Ritchie movie. Welp!… dreams really do come true! #FountainOfYouth coming to Apple TV+ on May 23."
People took to the comments after the A Quiet Place director's post to share their excitement after the update. Marianne said: "SO SO SO EXCITED. I cant wait to see this multiple times." Leo commented: "I’M GONNA BE THERE ON THE FIRST DAY!!!!"
Matt posted: "Liverpool making a proud appearance." Although the film was met with much excitement from viewers, it hasn't fared so well with the critics so far.
It currently has a 32% Rotten Tomatoes rating after 53 reviews. Ryan Gilbey for The Guardian awarded the movie a 2/5 rating and said: "Ritchie’s derivative yarn whisks John Krasinski off to picturesque spots on an uninspired search for treasure and excitement – neither of which arrive."
Kevin Maher from The Times also gave the film 2/5 as he added: "It’s chaotic, numbing and dull." Clarisse Loughrey from The Independent also awarded the film a 2/5 rating .
She said: "This would all be easier to enjoy, however, if the film had any sense of sincerity about its throwback spirit." There were positive reviews from outlets across the Atlantic.
Kate Erbland from IndieWire said: "Some mysteries can’t ever be cracked, but “Fountain of Youth” sure tries to keep the journey through this one as flashy — and, hell, even sometimes quite fun — as possible."
Todd Gilchrist from Variety gave a fresh rating as he said: "As a spirited time-filler, “Fountain of Youth” gets the job done, but anyone looking for a deeper exploration of the search for eternal life may find this little more insightful than a stopped clock."
