The Repair Shop’s Dominic Chinea has announced a surprise move away from the popular BBC show as he sets his sights on a “secret” new TV project.
A regular member of The Repair Shop in recent years, fans of the popular show have watched Dominic bring a number of antiques back to life, putting his metalwork skills to the test as he transforms the fortunes of family treasures.
But, having shared his metalwork expertise since making his debut on the show in 2017, he has now teased a new project to his YouTube subscribers, marking a move away from the BBC series.
While answering questions from fans on his YouTube channel recently, he revealed that he has purchased an old Land Rover Defender, and explained how it will play a significant role in his new TV show:"But, some of you may have seen in last week's video that I've gone and got myself a new (Land Rover) Defender.

"It is a TD5 2000, I think 2001, long 110 long bed pickup. It's in the workshop on axle stands with the bonnet open because it's broken. I was not expecting it to be a project."
Explaining that the upcoming repair job is more than just a vanity project, he added: "The reason for getting that— which is secret information, so keep it between yourselves— is that I'm working on a new TV show. I'm really excited about it.

“It's an awesome project and we're just getting started on it, and it's so exciting already. It's going really well. I can't wait to be able to share more with you— and we're going to be driving around in a Defender, if I can get it fixed.”
Hoping his fans will enjoy watching it as much as he’s enjoyed making it, Dominic said: "It's really exciting, I think you're going to love it. So far it has gone really well."

Wary that he might have given too much away ahead of any formal announcement, he shared an “apology”: “And that is probably going to get me into trouble. So apologies to anyone watching who is now probably texting me to say, ‘You're not allowed to say any of that.’”
However, away from sharing details of a new TV project, Dominic is also set to join fellow Repair Shop star Will Kirk as they team up with a group of masons currently being trained to help resurrect the historic stonework of York Minster.

The Repair Shop is set to return this evening (June 11) at 8 pm on BBC One.
