An easyJet flight from Paphos to Bristol Airport had to be diverted after a technical issue caused a 'smoke smell' on board, the airline has confirmed.

The flight from the Cypriot city had to make an emergency landing in Izmir, Turkey, on Saturday evening.

According to information on AirLive, the Airbus A320 aircraft was cruising at 36,000 feet when it 'suddenly turned around to the west of Turkey and started its descent'.

Details went on to state that as a smoke alarm went off in the plane, the crew decided to divert to Izmir where it reportedly landed an hour and 20 minutes after departure.

A statement from easyJet on Saturday, June 15, said: "We can confirm that flight EZY2902 from Paphos to Bristol diverted to Izmir due to a technical issue which resulted in a smoke smell onboard.
