Vicky McClure’s Emmerdale audition revealed and it’s worlds away from Line of Duty role
Vicky McClure almost had an entirely different career as her past soap audition has now been unearthed
Vicky McClure’s secret audition for Emmerdale has been revealed and fans will be floored.
The actress has been a staple on screens for years, ever since she shot to fame as Lol Jenkins in the 2006 Shane Meadows movie, This Is England.
Since then, Vicky has remained booked and busy: from 2012 to 2022 she played DI Kate Fleming on BBC’s hit show Line of Duty.
And more recently, she had the nation gripped thanks to her role as police bomb disposal expert Lana Washington in ITV’s Tipping Point.
What’s more, Nottingham native Vicky even bagged a role in a 2008 film directed by pop superstar Madonna, called Filth & Wisdom.
And as expected, Vicky has scooped up a slew of awards over the years for her work on the telly - including a BAFTA in 2011.
But it turns out Vicky’s career could have gone in a different direction, as she once auditioned for ITV’s Emmerdale.
In 2021, Host of the Soap from the Box podcast Lee Salisbury, and director of Vicky’s soap audition, posted a screenshot of her screentest and shared it on Instagram.
It is not known which role Vicky auditioned for - but she previously spoke out about nearly ending up in Emmerdale.
“I was very close to being in Emmerdale at one point and was very up for it. I was like, “It’s only down the road and I get to act”. That’s all I wanted to do,” she said on the Two Shot podcast.
The TV star continued: “I knew it wasn’t really what I wanted to do. I knew it wasn’t the type of shows that I wanted to be involved in.”
Vicky also revealed her “huge respect” for soap actors. She added: “I have so much respect for soap actors I really do for to sustain a character for that period of time, to learn dialogue like that.
“You can go into work one day and there’s been a murder, and then all of a sudden there’s a massive explosion, and then the next day you’re having a baby.
“Your head must be fried. It requires real acting ability to be able to shoot at the speed that they do. I have huge respect for them.”
