A new plan for a controversial Leicestershire house in multiple occupation (HMO) has emerged. Previous proposals for the site were withdrawn amid scores of objections.

Applicant Nigel Paget has put forward plans for the property in Leicester Road, in the village of Sapcote. He aims to turn it into a six-bed HMO, having previously applied for an eight-bed, eight-person home. The plan was then updated to request a seven-bed, seven-person home, but the plans did not go without criticism, and were subsequently withdrawn.

Little detail on the new six-bed plan for the home has been supplied though. Details before Blaby District Council only reveal an application form, location plan and existing site plan for the property.

In the seven-bed application, Mr Paget had claimed the change of use would make the property "comparable to a large family home", and that the number of "comings and goings" from the HMO would be comparable to a neighbouring care home. Mr Paget also said the proposed HMO "would not have a material impact on neighbouring residents", but this attracted scores of objections.

However, more than 80 objections were filed against the development for the four-bed detached house which is on a corner plot where Leicester Road and Sharnford Road meet. Among the opponents was Sapcote Parish Council.

The parish council raised concerns about parking due to the corner plot nature of the site. It also said that eight bedrooms was "extremely over-intensive for this property", adding there was "extreme concern" regarding a proposed "attic room" as it was "far too small" It believed such a room would not "provide a good standard of accommodation".

Amid the criticisms, the seven-bed HMO application was withdrawn by Mr Paget earlier this year. A decision on the current application is due to be made by Thursday, July 24.
