Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about his new health issue, which adds to what has been an already challenging time for the Clarkson's Farm star in recent months.

The 65-year-old underwent urgent heart surgery last year to have a stent fitted, after one of his arteries became blocked, and a second was heading the same way.

He raised the alarm after experiencing symptoms that included being "clammy", with a "tightness in my chest", and "pins and needles in my left arm".

During his visit to the hospital, a heart attack was dismissed, but he was told he was very close to falling seriously ill.

Writing in his latest column for The Times, the presenter revealed that he is now grappling with a trapped nerve in his back.

While critiquing the Mercedes-Benz G580, he commented: "I have a trapped nerve in my back at the moment.

"It's alright if I'm sitting still, but in the G580 that's not an option because it's constantly pitching, yawing, and rolling, leaving you clueless about its next move, so preparing yourself just isn't possible."

Reflecting on switching from the G580 back to his partner Lisa Hogan's Range Rover, he added it "was like getting out of an economy seat on a new airline called Air Turbulent, and into a bed at the world’s most peaceful hotel".

His new revelation comes shortly after he admitted to feeling tired and panicked while filming the fourth series of Clarkson's Farm.

He explained to The Sun: "You can see me becoming more and more ill as the days go on, because I just lose my sense of humour, lose my ability to stay calm.

"I get in a proper old panic. I didn't know at the time. I knew I wasn't being me. Because if you don't sleep, it very quickly has an effect."

After an urgent hospital visit last year, Jeremy received medical advice to reduce his intake of high-fat and processed foods, which can be linked with heart issues.

The broadcaster was also advised to increase his physical activity, prompting him to take up activities such as pickleball and Pilates.

In further disclosures about his health changes, the ITV host admitted that he had cut down on his alcohol consumption and has tried medications to help with weight management.

Despite some challenges while shooting for Clarkson’s Farm, Jeremy has insisted that it's better than previous shows he's filmed, as it allows him to be his authentic self.

"It's the real me on the farm show," he told The Telegraph. "There's no Top Gear nonsense. It's much more relaxing not to play a part."

Jeremy also commented on the on-screen personas of his co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May.

"We were caricatures on those car shows," he remarked. "James was not as boring as we made him out to be, Hammond was not as stupid, I was not as bombastic."

What is a trapped nerve?

According to Mayo Clinic, a trapped nerve, also known as a pinched nerve, strikes when too much pressure is applied to a nerve by surrounding tissues, such as bones, cartilage, muscles or tendons. This pressure can cause pain, tingling, numbness or weakness.

It can occur in many areas of the body. For example, a herniated disk in the lower spine may put pressure on a nerve root. This could cause pain that radiates down the back of the leg. A pinched nerve in the wrist can lead to pain and numbness in the hand and fingers, known as carpal tunnel syndrome.

The website says rest and other conservative treatments can help with recovery, with most people noticing improvements within a few days or weeks. Sometimes, surgery is needed to relieve pain from a pinched nerve.

If you are concerned, seek advice from your doctor.
