The popular Download Festival has roared into life at Donington Park in Leicestershire, where bands Green Day have headlined the main stage, along with Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, Rise Against, and others. Among those playing on other stages were Within Temptation, Opeth, and McFly.

Saturday (June, 14) saw Sleep Token headline the main stage, with Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter, The Darkness, and Cradle of Filth also appearing. The third and final day will be headlined by Korn, along with Bullet for My Valentine, Steel Panther, and Meshuggah.

Download is the UK's second largest rock festival, according to Visit Leicester. With well over 100,000 headbangers in attendance over the weekend it's second only to Glastonbury in terms of scale and attendance figures.

The event first launched in 2003 as the successor to the Monsters of Rock festival, which ran at the same site from 1980 to 1996.
