A Leeds man has appeared in court and has admitted a terror offence.

Martyn Paul Gilleard, 48, of Town Street, Armley, appeared for a short hearing at the Old Bailey on Friday and entered a guilty plea to a charge of possessing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

A spokesperson for the Counter Terrorism Policing North East Team said:" A 48-year-old man from Leeds has today (June 20) pleaded guilty to a terrorism offence.

"Martyn Paul Gilleard (15/07/76) from Town Street in Armley appeared at the Central Criminal Court, where he entered a guilty plea to the charge of possessing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

"He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on August 22, 2025."
