Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendia has unpacked his admiration for former Norwich City manager Daniel Farke amid rumours linking him with Leeds United this summer.

It is possible that United look for a new number 10 this window, with the club looking to bring in at least five key players before deadline day. Buendia has been a player frequently linked with Leeds over the last few windows given his connection to Farke.

The 28-year-old played 121 games under the German and was a key player in his system at Norwich. Farke himself sung the praises of Buendia in January when Unai Emery indicated that the playmaker was available for a loan.

“I never comment about players under contract for other teams - I wouldn't expect another manager to make a comment about my players,” Farke prefaced. “I've also read the comments because I'm interested in football and also the Premier League.

“Obviously I've worked with Emi Buendia in former years, he was one of my best players, I really rate him - but I don't comment on the situation of a player right now playing for a different side.”

It seems the feelings of admiration are mutual, with Buendia - who ultimately joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan in January - speaking glowingly of Farke while appearing on a Norwich fan channel.

The Argentina international told ‘Talk Norwich City ’ of Farke: “He’s one of the most important coaches in my career. He gave me the chance to join [Norwich].

“And then, the most important thing as a player, he gave me the confidence to be myself. To enjoy, feel free on the pitch.

“He was really good in terms of having a good connection with me and saying the things I needed to hear in every moment, in the good ones and also in the not good ones. He is special for me.”

Buendia, who has two years left on his Villa contract, has been tipped for an exit from Villa Park this summer, though there have been no soundings that Leeds have made an approach.
