The Karmen model from Rescina Service

Scales that improve the well-being of its users

The Karmen field scale, manufactured in Italy by Rescina Service, a company based in Noicattaro (Bari), is a a lightweight and handy solution for fruit and vegetable packaging directly in the field.

The scale is designed to enable the weighing of fruit crates, particularly table grapes, directly at the harvesting point, thereby optimizing processes and reducing operating costs.

With a weight of only 2.8 kg, the Karmen scales represent a significant step forward compared to previous models, which weighed up to 5 kg. Their capacity of up to 25 kg and compatibility with any type of mobile stand makes them a versatile tool for the field packing of table grapes.

The scales are also equipped with an aluminum platform with a height of 7 cm and a battery autonomy exceeding 100 hours, thereby guaranteeing prolonged use without interruption. Giuseppe Rescina, technical and design manager of Rescina Service, emphasizes that "robustness, lightness, reliability, practicality and ease of use are its distinguishing features, which have immediately found favour with the users, particularly the women employed in harvesting operations. Further recent improvements include an increase in the tilt of the tipper by 125 degrees to facilitate the packing of larger crates (40x60 cm) and a movable helical wire inside the box, which makes the display and control buttons mobile."

A central aspect of the company's philosophy is the improvement of working conditions for agricultural employees. The use of the Karmen scales avoids double handling of the fruit, thereby improving ergonomics, helping reduce fatigue, and increasing the motivation and productivity of operators. "Working in agriculture is very tiring already in itself, as it requires physical endurance. Equipping employees with a light and practical tool that is also suitable for moving between rows is the least that attentive entrepreneurs can do. Workers who used older scales have suffered musculoskeletal consequences, highlighting the importance of ergonomic tools. They like the scales, they are functional, and so those who had already bought them in the past are repurchasing them with confidence."

From a commercial point of view, sales have not yet reached their peak. The grape campaign has started in Sicily, where supplies continue these days as well.

The company keeps a stock of scales ready for use, considering that purchases in the sector are often not planned well in advance.

Rescina Service continues to invest in product development and production. "Expectations for the current agricultural year remain positive, with operators optimistic about achieving good numbers. The number of pieces sold increases by 20% every year in response to a market demand that is growing at the same rate. However, we reinvest a good part of the profit as we try to optimize costs, increase production, and improve the product."

The company also offers a trade-in service for old scales, even if they are no longer working, thus promoting a dual benefit: buyers can save on the new product and contribute to environmental protection.

The Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy has categorized these scales as a "utility model", thereby recognizing their innovation.
