Cameroon's banana exports fell by 2% in May 2025 compared to the previous year, as the Cameroon Banana Association (Assobacam) reported a reduction of 321 tons, totaling 15,222 tons, down from 15,543 tons in May 2024.
The Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) and Compagnie des Bananes de Mondoni (CDBM) played roles in mitigating the overall decline. Among Cameroon's four major exporters, only these two reported increases.
CDBM recorded a 25% growth, boosting exports from 1,098 tons in May 2024 to 1,465 tons in May 2025. CDC, which is Cameroon's second-largest employer after the civil service, increased exports by 10.4%, rising to 3,014 tons from 2,700 tons a year earlier.
European markets remain essential outlets. On the contrary, Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP), a key player under France's Compagnie Fruitière de Marseille, experienced a decline. PHP exports dropped to 9,998 tons in May 2025, a 9.2% decrease from 10,921 tons in May 2024, losing 923 tons.
Boh Plantations PLC (BPL), which became the fourth-largest producer with CDBM's growth, exported 745 tons in May 2025, down by 10.6% from the previous year's 824 tons.
Banana exports continue serving as a vital revenue source, chiefly targeting Europe. The National Institute of Statistics (INS) highlighted that in 2023, Cameroon exported bananas worth CFA42.9 billion to G7 countries, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the U.S..
